August 3, Upper Crust Eldorado

I’m happy to say that pianist Joseph Salack and I are starting to play out. Our first gig is Friday August 3, from 6 – 9 pm at the Upper Crust in ELDORADO (not the one downtown). Joseph and I are having way too much fun improvising modally together. Flute and piano are such a great combination and pure improv. is, for me, the BEST. I feel very lucky to have found someone of Joseph’s creative ability.  Here is a sample. We hope to see you!

NOTE TO MY FRIENDS IN ELDORADO: Gila Joy Pascale has worked very hard at Savor Eldorado, where neighbors enjoy local music, art & each other, in private homes. As she is taking a break, I am gladly jumping in. This website was my first fun task.  Please visit the site and contact me via the site if you want to share your music, show your art, and/or host an event. We hope to start up again this summer, in August.

Introducing Joseph Salack

After a long winter of recovery from a broken shoulder, and the rethinking my musical direction, I found pianist Joseph Salack. He needs no introduction in Santa Fe, where he has gigged for years, but he needs one on this site! We recently recorded these improvisational pieces on my iPhone. We envision ourselves improvising this way in a lovely venue with great acoustics and a real piano. Joseph has an electric keyboard for piano-less locations as well. Call Hope at 505-920-2256 for booking. Our first gig is at Upper Crust in Eldorado on Friday August 3rd, 6-9pm.

A kind of Summertime:

Spontaneous Jam

Vinnie and I had a fun long practice, ending in this spontaneous flute/guitar jam. What a blast! This may be my favorite kind of music to play – totally FRESH. Vinnie’s more into oldies, which I also love, but I’m more into jamming. Anybody interested? I’m looking for a guitarist and/or keyboard player who likes this kind of thing.

I’m Not Your Job

My first original: a love song to my  husband! Vinnie put some nice changes behind it and he kindly accompanies my vocals. The concept was inspired by a concert where the original love song lyrics got under my skin. Same old message: If I’m unhappy, it’s your fault. If I’m happy, it’s your fault, etc. I say that we are responsible for our own happiness, which is the ultimate gift we can give each other. On the way home from the concert I asked myself what I would say in a love song to my husband Thom, and it hit me: “I’m Not Your Job.” So I wrote it, although it felt more like it wrote itself, and here’s the PDF(Side note: Thom approves. In honor of that, see our 2015 anniversary selfie above.)

I made the song chart using the online software Noteflight. It’s cool! $50/year gives you many many options.

This is my quick attempt at a vocal recording:

Posting it here is one way for me to copyright the material…
