Sunday 9/23. First things first. I am having a blast with Savor Eldorado, where neighbors enjoy local music, art & each other, in private homes every month. Please RSVP here to get more information and join us this Sunday on 9/23 from 3 – 6 pm at Susan Latham’s home. Tracy Weaver will play guitar and Rachel Arvio will show and sell her lovely jewelry. The raffle will give away a $100 Visa gift card, a $25 gift certificate to Upper Crust, and a pair of Rachel’s earrings. If you are interested in these events, please sign up for the Savor Eldorado Newsletter. I may not use my flute gig notification list to announce this every month.
Friday 11/2. Playing with Jim Harlan at Upper Crust Pizza in Eldorado, 5:30 – 8:30 pm. More info soon.
Saturday 11/3. This is early notice but save the date for a James Taylor tribute evening with many singers and players at the Performance Space in Eldorado on November 3.
Yesterday, after noticing my shadow while singing and riding my ebike, I spontaneously held up my iPhone and recorded my floating shadow and a bit of JT. I love to sing (so to speak) while I ride and probably shouldn’t expose it here but friends are loving it on Facebook and the joy of biking is something to share!
In my ongoing journey of musical self-discovery I am veering in another direction for gigging. I have explored jazz, Americana and pure improv and now am moving towards the genre of singer/songwriter collaboration. I have done this before but never with someone who loves to jam. I enjoy singing harmonies and improvising. I love songs that leave people uplifted. So I’m calling out to the universe for an uplifting singer/songwriter who would like to jam with flute and add vocal harmonies. Guitar or piano are fine. IS THAT YOU? Do you know someone? Contact me!
Recently I was asked to record a flute track on my friend Julie Cunningham’s original piece “Realize”. To show her my idea, I used an app on my iPhone (Hokusai) and sent the flute track to her. Amazingly, they are mixing that iPhone recording onto a CD!
Here is an almost final version:

I had so much fun doing this at home, that I have now purchased everything I need, including Pro Tools, to start creating professional flute tracks for other people’s music. Recently I had an onsite training session with Bill Palmer of Frogville Studio. He got me set up to produce professional level flute tracks. I am ready to go! If your song needs flute, call me! 505-920-2256
I’m happy to say that pianist Joseph Salack and I are starting to play out. Our first gig is Friday August 3, from 6 – 9 pm at the Upper Crust in ELDORADO (not the one downtown). Joseph and I are having way too much fun improvising modally together. Flute and piano are such a great combination and pure improv. is, for me, the BEST. I feel very lucky to have found someone of Joseph’s creative ability. Here is a sample. We hope to see you!
NOTE TO MY FRIENDS IN ELDORADO: Gila Joy Pascale has worked very hard at Savor Eldorado, where neighbors enjoy local music, art & each other, in private homes. As she is taking a break, I am gladly jumping in. This website was my first fun task. Please visit the site and contact me via the site if you want to share your music, show your art, and/or host an event. We hope to start up again this summer, in August.
My shoulder is mending and it’s time to start jamming anew. Are you a guitarist or keyboard player who loves extended improvisational conversations with melodic instruments? Here’s an example of what I’m talking about. Do you have good rhythm? If you or someone you know fits this bill in Santa Fe, Taos, Albuquerque, call me! 505-920-2256
Greetings, friends. These winter months of healing from a broken shoulder have given me time to review my priorities in life. The upshot is that Vinnie and I are no longer a duo, but we’re still good friends and I feel deeply enriched by the year we played together. Vinnie’s repertoire of tunes is incredible as is his musicality. The fact that Vinnie supported me in singing for the first time shows immense bravery and compassion. 😉 I was blessed to play with him and get to know him and Jude. They are both gems.
I’m now looking for a primarily instrumental partnership, featuring extended improvisational conversations between my flute and either a guitar or keyboard. Original music is great, as is popular music, some jazz, blues and vocals. Keep your ears/eyes open for me, okay?
Note from Hope: Looks like my winter will be rich in rest and Netflix… I took a fall off my mountain bike and broke my left shoulder last week. Not a bad break as they go – no surgery needed – but no fluting for the near future. I’m grateful that my right/dominant arm is unhurt and that this didn’t happen in the summer! Friends have been lovely. Upper Crust Pizza gave me a yummy salmon salad.
I’m happy to say that Vinnie will be back at Eldorado’s Upper Crust Pizza this Friday playing guitar and singing fun Americana oldies. He’d love to see you. Bring your requests!
Friday, 12/22, 5:30 – 8:30 pm Upper Crust Pizza in Eldorado, next to the gas station.
